OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A charge of felony murder was filed Tuesday against Mandel Roy in connection with the death of Rodger Ridgeway.
Police are also searching for a second suspect, Terran Colwell – who has not been charged yet – as well as witnesses to the murder.
Ridgeway, 22, was found dead on a Neenah street April 17. When police arrived, nearby they found a cellphone with a pocket containing Roy’s debit card, as well as a wooden club.
On surveillance video “it appears a physical disturbance takes place between (Ridgeway) and the group of individuals. Audio from the recording includes a lot of yelling and multiple loud smacks. At about 11:12 PM, what sounds like a female voice yells something along the lines of “let’s go!” and “f*** him!” and then two subjects take off running,” the criminal complaint states.
The two who took off running are later identified as Roy and Colwell.
“The evidence obtained by Neenah Police Department investigators shows that Mandel Roy began fighting with (Ridgeway), committing at least a battery, using a blunt weapon. Terran Colwell also became involved in the fight, likely stabbing (Ridgeway), with a knife, causing injuries that resulted in (Ridgeway),’s death. Roy and Colwell continued to fight with (Ridgeway), even after his apparent attempts to get away,” the complaint states.
Roy talked with police after his arrest, but did not offer specific details about the incident.
Ridgeway suffered five stab wounds, another incision, and multiple bruises. Stab wounds to the chest were fatal, the complaint states.
Roy made an initial appearance Tuesday in Winnebago County court, where a $250,000 cash bond was set. He returns to court May 6 for a preliminary hearing.
Felony murder alleges the death was caused while committing another crime, a battery in the case. It carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, if convicted.
