ELDORADO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputy was injured while trying to detain a man who jumped out of a moving vehicle.
Just before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, authorities received a report of a suspicious person walking around, looking into the windows of homes on State Highway 26 in the town of Eldorado.
When deputies made contact with the man, he appeared to be possibly under the influence of narcotics or experiencing a mental health episode. Deputies also noticed injuries on the man, consistent with road rash.
Based on the man’s abnormal and inconsistent statements, deputies made the decision to try to detain him for his safety.
During the attempt to detain him, the man resisted and both the man and deputy went to the ground. A second deputy deployed a taser and was able to gain control of the man.
The 27-year-old deputy suffered a significant knee injury during the scuffle. The deputy was treated and released.
The suspect, a 38-year-old Oshkosh man, was treated for his injuries and taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail.
Further investigation into the incident revealed the man had previously jumped out of a moving vehicle on State Highway 26 in Winnebago County before deputies had contact with him.
