NEENAH, WI (WTAQ) — Neenah’s city council is voting not to enact a new mask mandate after reviewing the matter Wednesday night.
“You know, it wasn’t a very civil discussion,” Neenah Mayor Dean Kaufert said of the meeting. “Not very pleasant. Downright nasty.”
Kaufert called it a very divisive ordinance and called for respect among neighbors during his appearance on WTAQ’s ‘The Morning News with Matt and Earl’.
“The aldermen are citizens who are just trying to do what’s best,” said Kaufert. “Most of the time, they get it right. Their intentions are good. This one just got way out of hand.”
The statewide mask rules ended last month after the state Supreme Court shot down the emergency order put in place by Governor Tony Evers.
The city of Oshkosh approved a mask mandate last month.
