GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Six people are displaced and three people, including two police officers, were hurt in an overnight fire on East Shore Drive in Green Bay.
Green Bay Battalion Chief Mike Vanden Avond says firefighters were called out around midnight to a fire on the second story of a single family home and that at first, it was reported that a 12-year-old boy wasn’t accounted for, leading firefighters to rush into the house.
Turns out, the boy was at a relatives house down the road.
“There have been firefighters that have died going to search for people that aren’t even in the house,” Vanden Avond told WTAQ.
Vanden Avond says that situation is the most dangerous a firefighter has to deal with.
One family member received minor burns escaping the blaze and was treated and released. Two Green Bay Police Officers were also transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and released.
Six people were displaced due to the fire and the structure is a total loss, estimated at $245,000.
The fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office at this time.
