GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Spring Break travel season is nearly upon us, but the CDC and Medical Professionals are still urging people to skip the trip this year.
The suggestion comes in spite of falling COVID-19 infections and deaths and rising vaccination numbers.
“We still have not had enough people vaccinated to develop herd immunity,” said Thedacare Pediatrician Dr. Abby Smolcich. “A lot of folks, a lot of families, mine included, are talking about doing a staycation.”
Smolcich says COVID-19 variant strains are circulating throughout the country, and those could wind up spreading quickly.
“Even if you’ve been vaccinated, even if you’re going to an area where the number of cases are low, there is still that risk of contracting coronavirus and bringing that back,” she told WTAQ.
It’s not clear how low numbers will have to drop for the CDC to rescind their recommendations.
