KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – BayCare Clinic, Aurora BayCare Medical Center, and Firehouse Subs are making a difference for the Kaukauna Fire Department.
Those groups presented grants to the fire department to help it purchase two “LUCAS devices.”
The devices are used to help give hands-free chest compressions during CPR and improve survival rates during heart attacks.
Since it’s an automatic device, it can help first responders focus on other rescue tactics during a call.
“With our transport times, folks certainly can get tired from the CPR. They recommend changing out providers every two minutes, and as you can imagine, that would be extremely, extremely labor-intensive,” Kaukauna Fire Chief Jake Carrel said. “So, like I said, this frees up our folks so they don’t get tired. This thing doesn’t get tired, and it just keeps working.”
The department received about 25,000 dollars in grants.
