FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A 34-year-old Green Bay area man is in custody after deputies say he led them on a high-speed chase and standoff last night in Dodge and Fond du Lac County.
Deputies say the man was armed with a butcher knife after the chase ended.
They say he removed a baby from the back seat and held it in front of him during the standoff. They say a woman was also in vehicle.
A Fond du Lac County SWAT/Negotiations team was called and spent several hours speaking with the man and woman.
At 10:15 p.m. the man surrendered and was taken into custody. The woman and baby were helped out of the vehicle by the SWAT team.
No one was injured and two squad cars received minor damages during the chase.
Deputies say the chase started just after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when a Fond du Lac County deputy tried stopping the vehicle on USH 151 SB near STH 23 going more than 90 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The vehicle didn’t stop which led to a pursuit into Fond du Lac and then onto rural highways. During the pursuit, deputies say the driver tried hitting the deputy’s squad car.
Deputies say they used a blocking maneuver to end the 14-mile chase on STH 175, just south of STH 49 in Dodge County.
Highways were closed while officers negotiated with the man.
