GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Carl King was charged Tuesday with attempted first-degree intentional homicide for allegedly exchanging gunfire with an Oneida Police Dept. officer.
King made an initial appearance Tuesday, when a March 23 preliminary hearing was scheduled. He is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
The incident happened Feb. 21 at the Oneida Police Dept. office.
According to the criminal complaint, officers suspected King may have been intoxicated after he drove into the parking lot.
Officer Dakota Oskey “stayed by his squad and yelled at the man to show his hands and get away from the vehicle. (Officer Oskey) said the male was acting as if he was going to drive away as he immediately went inside his vehicle. (Officer Oskey) ran to cover behind a parked vehicle, which was away from his patrol vehicle to gain cover from the male. The male got out of his car with a handgun. (Officer Oskey) ran to the passenger side tail light area of his squad car. (Officer Oskey) heard two-three (2-3) gun shots, which (Officer Oskey) felt were towards him from the male. (Officer Oskey) had his hand gun drawn and fired shots approximately nine (9) times,” the complaint states.
King was struck in the leg. Oskey was not hurt.
The criminal complaint suggests King wanted officers shoot him.
(Officer Oskey) heard King say something to the effect of “I’m sorry or I love you” to the person on the phone; it made the hair on the back of (Officer Oskey)’s neck stand up. (Officer Oskey) felt the comment King was making was saying goodbye.
The complaint also states: “While putting the handcuffs on King, King stated, ‘Why don’t you just put a bullet in my head I want to die!’”
