CALUMET CO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The cold and snowy weather in Wisconsin doesn’t provide ideal golfing conditions.
But when the sun starts shining, some Wisconsinites start thinking of hitting the golf course.
The North Shore Golf Club in Calumet County is actively preparing for their season to start.
As the snow is melting, the club is keeping an eye on how green conditions held up through the cold.
Golf course superintendent Dustin Riley tells FOX 11 they look for a few signs that indicate the course is almost ready.
“We need the ground to be thawed out and hopefully the temperatures and the ground warming up will get the grass to begin to grow – and that’s what we’re looking for.”
Inside of the North Shore Golf Course there is a golfing simulator for those who can’t stay away from golf during the winter.
Riley says there are golf simulators popping up all over the Fox Valley for people to enjoy during the cold.
The golf course still plans to have COVID-19 protocols in place for the foreseeable future.
They are happy to see golf tournaments and events coming back this summer.
Riley says they hope to see more people interested in outdoor golf this year amid the ongoing pandemic.
For now the plan is to have the course open sometime in the first week of April… But you can always check the North Shore Golf Club website for the latest information.
