MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) — Students in Menasha are seeing something they haven’t seen in about a year today: full-time, in-person classes five days a week.
Superintendent Chris Vander Heyden on WTAQ’s ‘The Morning News with Matt and Earl’ says the numbers in the area have declined to the point where the district felt comfortable making the jump.
“We’ve got the mitigation strategies in place already,” Vander Hayden said. “Then just slight changes in the CDC guidance all kind of came together for a good conversation with the health department to say; ‘you know what? I think we can make this work.'”
A hybrid model was in place for older students while about 15% of younger students stayed out of class this year.
There will still be quite a bit in the way of masks and social distancing throughout the school buildings.
“We we need to keep wearing masks, we need to social distance as much as possible,” Vanden Hayden said. “Keep hands clean, and and especially being careful we’re doing on our off time, for the weekends and evenings.”
COVID-19 numbers are falling throughout the state as vaccine numbers continue to rise.
