GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — There won’t be a physical Bellin Run again this year.
The annual event is going digital for the second year in a row now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Assistant Race Director Linda Maxwell says it’s going to be a bit more involved this year.
“We’re actually going to have a timing app that people can download,” Maxwell said. “It will time them, over their own course, for a 10k, six point two miles.”
Last year’s event was also virtual, drawing around 4,000 participates. The in-person event run usually draws over 10,000.
“We know the virtual event is not for everyone, and we applaud people who can get out and stay active without needing that extra push,” said Maxwell. “But people like being a part of the Bellin Run.”
Maxwell says she thinks this will be the last time they have to cancel the in-person portion of the event, given the trajectory of COVID-19 cases and vaccination numbers.
