GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Two of James Prokopovitz’s stepchildren took the stand today in the trial against their stepfather, who is accused of killing their missing mother.
Wesley Edges and Marsha Loritz both testified Tuesday that James Prokopovitz acted strangely, insisting their mother, Victoria Prokopovitz, was “gone” immediately after she dissapeared.
“He didn’t say she was missing,” Edges told defense attorney John D’Angelo during cross examination. “He said ‘She’s gone’.”
Loritz testified that James had told her that Victoria had “finally done it”. Defense attorneys are arguing that it’s more likely that Victoria, who had a history of mental illness and suicide attempts, killed herself.
Prosecutors, however, point to James Prokopovitz’s behavior immediately after the disappearance and the fact that Victoria’s purse, cigarettes, and dentures were all found in the home as evidence of wrongdoing.
The trial is expected to last two weeks.
