APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – An Appleton elementary school is looking to change it’s name.
The school district is looking to hear from the community on changing Lincoln Elementary to Ronald C. Dunlap Elementary School, the home of the Lincoln Lions.
It’s in memory of the school’s former principal, who died in October 2019.
City and school officials created a committee to find a way to best honor Dunlap, who was active in the community.
“Ultimately the committee just decided it’d make most sense to name a school in Ron’s honor, and the school Ron had been at. We want to keep the Lincoln name in there just to recognize the history,” Appleton Area School District Chief Financial Officer Greg Hartjes said.
School officials want to hear from community members by next week Friday.
Board of Education members will vote on the change on February 22nd.
More information on the proposal and feedback submission can be found here.
