GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Green Bay School District is going to be ready for the return of students to the classroom starting on March 1st.
Superintendent Stephen Murley appeared on WTAQ’s ‘The Morning News with Matt and Earl’ says moving up the date provoked a mixed reaction amongst parents.
“You’ve got parents that they have written to us and said… ‘Hey this is too soon’, and you’ve got other parents that said ‘boy, I wish my kids had been in school back in September’,” explained Murley.
It’s been a mixed reaction among teachers, too. Murley says some teachers are concerned about spreading the virus and the inability for teachers to get the vaccine. Others, he says, are excited to get back to in-person classes.
He says logistically they’ve been working on getting back to school for months and that the return to class will be smooth.
“There may be a few hiccups in the road here and there,” said Murley. “But you’re going to see things look fairly straightforward.”
The district opted to move the start date up to March 1st, due in part to the lower COVID-19 burden rate in the area.
