MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — More than 6,000 people have died of COVID-19 complications in Wisconsin, the Department of Health Services reported Friday.
DHS reported 28 new deaths, pushing the total to 6,020 since the pandemic began.
The seven-day average of new deaths declined to 23. The seven-day average peaked at 61 on Dec. 7.
Meanwhile, virus activity continued the decline seen over the past two and a half months. DHS reported 1,266 new cases on Friday, 22.1% of the total tests done. Seven-day averages declined to 1,186 new cases and 18.7% test positivity.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 548,221 confirmed cases and more than 2.5 million negative tests. DHS lists 526,004 people as having recovered from COVID-19.
As of Friday, 143,610 people had completed their two-dose course of vaccinations. Thirty percent of Wisconsinites 65 and older had received at least one shot.
