OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A local entertainment venue is gearing up to host some big events soon.
The Menominee Nation Arena will be hosting the Eli Young Band and the WIAA state basketball tournament in the near futuure.
For the MNA, hosting events is something they’ve continued to do, even during the pandemic.
“We’ve actually been holding events since the top of August of 2020. Most of our events in 2020 we did hold outside,” Menominee Nation Arena general manager Jason Fields said.
Fields tells FOX 11 their customers are their number one priority.
“Really just working very closely with the state and county officials trying to find the safest practice for our patrons.”
The venue typically seats 4600, but will only allow 1500 on the property.
WIAA has its own set of protocols, but Fields says their capacity will not exceed that number.
“We’re giving almost a 2 hour block between the games for the removal of fans, sanitization of locker rooms, the stands, the score tables, all those types of things before we bring in the next communities, keeping the communities separate from one side of the arena to the other,” WIAA assistant director Kate Peterson Abiad said.
Peterson Abiad tells FOX 11 the MNA has indicated they can host about 1000 people, which will be evenly distributed among the two teams.
“If there are any additional tickets, there may be provisions in place, where those tickets will be able to be offered to the general public but I would say the likelihood of that is not great.”
Peterson Abiad says everyone coming from the school will fall under those parameters.
The arena will host both the boys basketball state tournament and the Eli Young Band in March.
The girls state tournament starts February 25th.
