MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — It’s not a short holiday week, testing has been chugging along no slower than it has over the past several weeks, and now for the first time since September 14th, less than a thousand new cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus were reported by state officials on Monday.
While numbers are typically lowest on Mondays, the 946 positives out of 4,199 total tests (22.5%) represent the lowest single-day total since Sept. 14, other than Dec. 26, when testing was low over the Christmas weekend.
Monday’s total pushed the seven-day average of new cases to 1,577, its lowest level since Sept. 18. The seven-day average of test positivity rose slightly to 20.6%.
An additional eight new deaths were reported on Monday, with the seven-day average at 33.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 533,917 confirmed infections in Wisconsin, nearly 2.5 million negative tests and 5,699 deaths. DHS lists 505,987 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
As of Monday, there were no inpatients at the alternate care facility near Milwaukee, with four people receiving outpatient treatment.
Vaccination and hospitalization numbers had not been updated for the day as of early afternoon.
