MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — COVID-19 numbers continue to fall in the state of Wisconsin as vaccination numbers continue to climb.
The state Department of Health Services reported 2,177 new confirmed cases on Thursday, or 25.1% of the 8,687 total tests completed. DHS also reported 45 new deaths.
The seven-day average of new cases continued its downward trend, standing at 1,731 on Thursday. The seven-day average of test positivity was at 22.4%. The average number of deaths remained high, however, with 45 people per day dying of COVID-19 complications over the past week — unchanged from Wednesday.
The update comes as the state Department of Health Services re-worked its weekly dashboard for virus activity. It shows no counties with a growing trajectory of activity, and only one — Buffalo County along the Minnesota border — with “critically high” activity. Three counties in Northeast Wisconsin — Florence, Waushara and Green Lake — are in the “high” category, while the rest of the area is in the “very high” category. Menominee County has dropped into the “very high” category after spending several weeks listed as “critically high.”
Since the pandemic began, there have been 528,101 confirmed cases, nearly 2.5 million negative tests and 5,607 deaths. DHS lists 498,368 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
As of Thursday, 285,358 doses of vaccine had been administered in Wisconsin.
