WASHINGTON, DC (WTAQ) — 8th district Congressman Mike Gallagher says he’s never seen anything like the demonstrations at the Capitol on Wednesday, where pro-Trump demonstrators stormed the building.
“I never thought that, when I got elected to congress, that I would be listening to the sporadic sounds of flash grenades in the distance,” the Iraq War vet told WTAQ’s ‘The Morning News with Matt and Earl’ on Thursday. “It’s a sight you’d never want to see or even conceive was possible in the United States Capitol.”
Gallagher said things got scary the moment the US Secret Service ushered Vice President Mike Pence out of the congressional chambers as they were in the process of certifying the vote in the electoral college.
“I barricaded my own office door, and I discussed with my staff how we would defend it if that door was taken down,” Gallagher said. “It was very chaotic.”
Gallagher placed the blame on President Trump for the chaos.
President Elect Joe Biden’s electoral college victory was certified after demonstrators were cleared out.
