GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Green Bay Police say they won’t tolerate violent protests, but so far this year they haven’t had to.
Demonstrations over the decision not to charge any Kenosha Police officers in the shooting of Jacob Blake stayed quiet on Tuesday.
“There were a few small groups that formed downtown to express their opinion, and it was peaceful,” Police Commander Kevin Warych said. “People can do that.”
Also peaceful: a demonstration by Trump supporters calling to overturn the 2020 election on Wednesday. A far cry from the chaos in DC. Warych says peaceful demonstrations will always be welcome in Green Bay.
“From the police department’s perspective, people can do that 365 days a year,” said Warych. “We have no problem with that.”
Over the summer, police in Green Bay dealt with at least two protests that got out of hand and spiraled into violence and looting.
