DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) – The Unified School District of De Pere approved a retirement notice from its superintendent during a special board meeting Monday night.
The board approved the request of Ben Villarruel, who has served the district for at least 20 years.
“We are deeply grateful for (Villarruel’s) service over 20 years with the district, and the timeframe he has provided for his transition,” board president David Youngquist said in a news release. “Continuing in his role through the next school year allows us to conduct a thorough recruiting, hiring and on-boarding process for a new Superintendent without interruption to our day-to-day operations.”
During his tenure, Villarruel oversaw the passage of a $7.1 million referendum and assisted with fundraising efforts for redevelopment of the high school’s stadium complex, according to the release.
The release goes on to say Villarruel plans to spend retirement with his family.
His retirement will go into effect in June of 2022.
