GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Veterans in Northeast Wisconsin are getting a special thank you this Christmas.
On Friday, volunteers for the “Green Bay Area USBC Bowling Association” helped pack baskets for vets.
They’ll deliver 500 baskets to nursing homes and assisted living centers, with another 100 baskets going to homeless shelters.
The woman who started this project about 40 years ago, Lenore Olsen, is still helping today.
“It’s very important. They don’t get gifts from a lot of people. They’re alone in nursing homes. This just brightens up their Christmas.”
Usually this group hand-delivers the baskets to the veterans to personally thank them for their service.
But because of the pandemic, they can’t do that this year.
They hope to continue that tradition in the future.
