Steven Brownell (Winnebago County Jail)
OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man has plead guilty in connection to a 2018 drunk driving crash that killed his 10-year-old daughter.
Steven Brownell, 61, was convicted of homicide by intoxicated use of motor vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration. Two other counts were dismissed. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 5.
The maximum penalty would be 25 years in the prison system. Assistant District Attorney Adam Levin said the state will ask for three to four years of prison time.
Brownell’s daughter, Kherington, 10, was killed in the Aug. 10, 2018, crash on Highway 45, while her brother, Kage, 13, was injured.
Brownell’s blood alcohol level was .261, more than three times the legal limit. Brownell’s Mustang left the highway, went airborne, and crashed in a cornfield. One witness estimated he was going at least 100 mph, according to the complaint.
