Who knew that farming would come in handy in space?
Michael Hopkins is a farm kid from Missouri who went on to become a U.S. Air Force flight test engineer and now an astronaut. Hopkins, along with three other astronauts launched into space from Kennedy Space Center in the Falcon 9 rocket Sunday night. The SpaceX Crew-1 consists of Hopkins, Victor Glover, Shannon Walker, and Soichi Noguchi. He’ll be making good use of his agricultural background while they’re up in space for the next six months by growing food for the crew to eat. Hopkins did his first space mission back in 2013 where he stayed at the International Space Station for 166 days.
