MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A lawsuit filed by the Trump campaign against NBC affiliate WJFW TV in Rhinelander has been dismissed by a judge in Madison.
The complaint called for the station to stop running a political ad paid for by the Democratic Politica Action Committee (PAC) Priorities USA which strung together clips of President Trump downplaying the COVID-19 pandemic. In it a clip of Trump saying “The Coronavirus, this is their new hoax” is played, a clip that other fact-checkers determined was taken out of context.
The clip came from a speech where Trump was discussing the Democrat’s politicization of the virus, and not the virus itself. Because of that, Politifact rated the claim as “false.”
Lawyers for WJFW asked for the suit to be tossed because it’s been projected that Trump will lose the election to Democratic challenger Joe Biden, arguing that the campaign “lacks standing to maintain the suit.” That request was granted late last week.
