GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Port of Green Bay saw a significant slowdown in October.
The port saw only 110,668 tons of cargo move in and out of the port in October, the lowest monthly total of the year.
“We basically did about a third of what we’ve normally done compared to previous years,” port directopr Dean Haen told WTAQ.
That’s in spite of a strong start in the beginning of the season, where numbers exceeded that of last year.
Haen says it’s indicative of economic trouble brought on by the pandemic.
“I view us as a regional indicator of the economy in northeast Wisconsin,” said Haen. “We’re starting to see a little bit of a slowdown in manufacturers getting raw materials in.”
Shipping tonnage so far this year stands at 1.4 million tons. 126 ships have visited, 20 less than this time last year.
Last year, 2.3 million tons of material came through the Port of Green Bay.
