APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — It’s been a rough year for the Old Glory Honor Flight.
The pandemic forced the group to stop flying vets out to Washington DC to visit their war memorials. It also forced the cancellation of their planned “Return to Korea” trip earlier this year.
“This year has really been a bust for us,” said Honor Flight executive director Diane MacDonald. “Since everything has been canceled we’ve had to come up with creative ways to honor our vets.”
They’ve put together a wall calendar as part of those efforts.
“It’s filled with honor flight photos of our veterans and our special missions,” MacDonald said.
They’ll be giving away those calendars, along with 250 Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, during an event on Veterans Day near their headquarters on Spencer Street.
MacDonald says they’re hoping to be able to start flying vets out to visit their memorials in Washington DC in the Summer of next year.
