MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — For the second day in a row, Wisconsin broke its record for new coronavirus cases, recording nearly 6,000 in a single day.
The Department of Health Services on Wednesday said 5,935 people tested positive, or 36.5% of the 16,268 total tests done.
Another 54 people died.
Seven-day averages moved to 4,839 total cases, 37 deaths and 31.1% test positivity. DHS secretary-designee Andrea Palm said in a news conference Wednesday that in the past eight weeks, the seven-day average of new cases increased 531%.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 244,002 confirmed cases, nearly 1.9 million negative tests and 2,156 deaths.
As of Wednesday morning, there were six patients at the alternate care facility near Milwaukee, down one from Tuesday.
