The Wisconsin Pork Association’s offering four scholarship opportunities for high school seniors and college students interested in the pork industry. Here’s everything you need to know about each scholarship.
Wisconsin Pork Association Scholarship
This scholarship is open to high school seniors that have an interested in the swine industry. There’s one $500 scholarship and one $400 scholarship that will be given out. This scholarship has to be postmarked by December 1st, 2020.
This scholarship’s in memory of Rex Whitmore who served as the first executive director for the Wisconsin Pork Producers Association.
To be eligible you need to be a registered junior or senior at UW Madison, Platteville, or River Falls. They’re awarding one applicant a $1,500 scholarship preferably to a student going for an Animal Science degree in Wisconsin. This scholarship isn’t limited to Wisconsin residents, applicants just need to be enrolled in one of the UW schools listed above. Those who apply are judged on grade point average, extracurriculars, leadership positions, career interest, and their financial need.
Gunderson Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship’s in memory of Buell Gunderson, thanks to his family and the WPA. Gunderson and his wife, Bernice, served as Secretary and Treasurer of the WPA for over 20 years! Scholarship recipient recommendations are requested from those in the pork industry, county pork producer organizations, along with college/tech school professors. They’re looking for someone who’s very involved and interested in the pork industry to receive the $1,000 scholarship.
Fredrich Memorial/WPA Scholarship
This scholarship is in memory of Clarence Fredrich who was a big part of the Southeast Wisconsin Pork Producers Association. To be considered for one of the scholarships you must be a high school senior or college freshmen from Kenosha, Racine, or Walworth County. There are two $1,000 scholarships and one $750 scholarship available.
