MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man who allegedly made threats against the company that had recently fired him is not competent to stand trial, a judge ruled Thursday.
Nathanial Smith, 33, is charged with making terrorist threats after he was dismissed from Manitowoc Grey Iron Foundry.
A psychiatric report determined he is not competent to stand trial. That means he doesn’t understand the proceedings and cannot assist in his own defense. An order for institutional care and medication was ordered, court records show.
Smith’s status will be reviewed in January.
According to the probable cause statement, Smith shared multiple videos and posts, which included threats to those at Manitowoc Grey Iron Foundry. Among the comments he makes are “No one will survive am serious,” “If they’re going to steal my money, I will kill everyone,” and “This time, you pay with your lives.”
After his arrest, Smith stated “I was just venting, saying whatever the (expletive) came to my mind, dude. I wasn’t actually planning to do it,” the document states.
