APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Donations top the wish lists for many nonprofits this year.
“Some volunteer opportunities have decreased due to the COVID but our wish-list has increased.”
Volunteer Fox Cities is releasing its annual Holiday Volunteering Guide.
Executive Director Susan Vanden Heuvel tells FOX 11 the pandemic hurt nonprofits.
“Their revenue streams have been affected. So they do need anything from general office supplies to operational supplies, things that will help them to help their clients.”
A survey from Volunteer Fox Cities indicates that 71% of Fox Valley nonprofits need volunteers- especially for the holidays.
“You can list your areas of interest, and when there is a volunteer opportunity that matches your interest, you are sent an email so that you can respond to that opportunity,” said Vanden Heuvel.
Customizing your volunteer experience may bring you to one stop on the Holiday Guide.
Penny Jane Strauss is in charge of the Thanksgiving Food Basket Program, a non-contact way to volunteer.
“Thanksgiving food baskets as well as the food program is strictly by donors who call me and say they want to help a family in need. They will then provide the items needed for the holidays.”
“We wanted to sponsor families for thanksgiving by sponsoring meals and then we also do Christmas by sponsoring families as well,” said Andrew Kluck with Technical Prospects.
Technical Prospects utilizes the Holiday Guide.
“It means everything. We all live here in the community so we want to help out our community as well.”
“A lot fewer people working, or limited hours. I have heard there is more of a need this year compared to other years,” said Strauss.
The Holiday Guide is expected to keep growing.
Strauss tells FOX 11 everyone benefits from giving back.
“I have donors call and say ‘Oh my gosh we delivered and the kids were so excited.”
