GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Snow is in the forecast.
There’s a chance to see our first hit of the white stuff this weekend, and road crews in Green Bay are prepared.
“Guys are already in the trucks,” Public Works Director Steve Grenier told WTAQ. “We’ve had them out with the equipment doing dry runs through the routes they’ll be plowing this winter.”
Maintenance staff have been working to keep equipment in working order. It’s a process that begins as early as July for road crews in Green Bay. That’s when newly hired drivers first get their time behind the wheel of city plows, training in low density subdivisions on the East side.
That training is expected to come in particular handy this year.
“I’ve got a feeling we’re going to have an earlier winter, a longer winter, and perhaps a colder winter than we’ve had in the last couple of years,” added Grenier.
Last year crews saw far less action than usual. As such, the city’s current stock of sand and road salt is higher than usual.
