GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Don’t let the chicken block the road.
That from Green Bay Police ahead of the Friday opening of Green Bay’s very first Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen restaurant at the intersection of Taylor and Mason Street on the city’s west side.
Traffic in the area is expected to get heavy as Green Bay residents scramble on their quest for chicken and biscuits.
“Last year when they opened up in Appleton, at one point they had 88 cars waiting in the drive thru,” said Police Lt. Mike Sobiek. “We are going to have our traffic enforcement unit monitor it.”
If you’re desperate enough for a box, expect to wait. Not only will drivers be waiting in the drive thru line, but there is going to be a line…for the drive thru line.
“The owner has some plans to use some private property nearby to direct cars into it as a waiting area for the drive thru,” said Sobiek.
Police are hopefully that prevents slowdowns on the busy Mason and Taylor thoroughfares.
“I don’t think it will be too bad,” Sobiek said. “The one thing we do worry about is the traffic exiting Popeye’s back on to Taylor street.
Police urge people not to block traffic on major roads during their chicken pilgrimage.
