GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — It’s Fire Prevention Week in Northeast Wisconsin.
The week usually involves area firefighters visiting local schools to give a myriad of fire safety demonstrations to students, and give similar lessons to folks in nursing homes. This year, it’s going to be a little different given that few physical classrooms are open, due to pandemic closures.
‘We have upgraded our fire safety presentations and moved them virtually, so that option is out there for teachers to sign up for,” said Green Bay Metro Fire Department Lt. Shauna Walesh. “They’re kind of like our normal fire presentation what we would do, it’s got videos firefighters putting on gear, showing kids doing a lot of those activities, but just kind of behind a screen.”
Walesh said fire safety is even more important in the world of COVID-19, given that more people are staying at home.
