FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – One person died and four others were injured in a crash involving an ambulance early this morning in Fond du Lac.
The Wisconsin State Patrol said just before 4:30 a.m., a car ran a red light and struck an ambulance at the intersection of Johnson Street and Main Street.
Fond du Lac Fire Chief Peter O’Leary said the ambulance was taking a non-emergency patient to the hospital at the time of the crash.
At the scene, it appeared the patient and two ambulance crew members were okay but were taken to the hospital to be checked out. Wisconsin State Patrol reports all three sustained minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the car was trapped, a 28 year old Theresa man had to be extricated from the vehicle. The driver, a 21 year old Fond Du Lac man, sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown to the hospital.
The passenger was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.
The intersection of Johnson Street and Main Street was closed for approximately 5.5 hours while the crash was investigated.
