GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — A surefire sign that Fall is almost upon us: Bow Hunting season is this weekend.
With the season, however, comes not merely venison–but serious injuries as well.
“By far the most common injuries we see are falls from tree stands,” Dr. Steve Schechinger, an orthopedic surgeon at OSMS, told WTAQ. “It’s important for hunters to make sure that their straps are in good condition, and if they’re not, they’re replaced.”
Good footwear, to prevent slippage, can prevent injury along with the regular use of hunter safety harnesses.
Keeping up your equipment is just as important. Shrapnel injuries from broken arrows are seen a lot. So, too, are repetitive motion injuries.
“Strains of the rotator cuff or forearm are very common,” Dr. Schechinger said. “Simply changing your technique when shooting, or doing some physical therapy…or stretching can alleviate those symptoms.”
The bow season starts Saturday and runs until January 3rd.
