GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – UPDATE: A 17-year-old suspect wanted in connection to a shooting near Seymour Park on Sunday has been found after a two-hour long manhunt on the city’s east side.
“When you pull out a hand gun and shoot another individual, it’s an extraordinary serious crime and we would be urging serious charges,” said Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith. “That is not something it’s welcome here in Green Bay, that complete disregard for another person’s life.”
Chief Andrew Smith says officers tried to stop the suspect, who ran into a wooded area near Main Street and Oakdale Avenue. Businesses and schools in the area were put on lockdown as police set up a perimeter around the area.
“We really thought he was in the perimeter. Apparently he was able to escape at the very beginning and get out of the perimeter. We don’t know if he had assistance getting from here to a County Road G,” Smith said. “”It’s about 5 miles. It’s over by the county sheriff’s department. So it’s in that area off of Monroe – and there’s a series of apartment. We developed information that he was out in that area, and sure enough sheriff’s were able to nab him and he’s in custody now…The good news is that he’s in custody. Our sincere thanks to the men and women of the Brown County Sheriff’s Department for their help. It’s a great day for all of us we can put a wanted to attempted murderer in jail.”
17-year-old Demarvis Johnson was taken into custody without incident. Nobody was hurt during the arrest. Johnson could face charges including Attempted Homicide.

Green Bay police are asking you to avoid an area on the east side as they search for a man connected to a shooting incident.
Police are looking for an armed and dangerous suspect in the area of Oakdale Avenue and Main Street.
“He ran from them and ran into a wooded area just north of Main Street…”He is believed to be armed and dangerous, based on the fact that he’s already shot one individual just couple days ago. He did not seem to be wanting to surrender to police. We’ve been using our public address system over and over to try and call him out of the woods to surrender peacefully, and he has refused to do so,” said Police Chief Andrew Smith. “We believe the suspect is in there. We’ve got him on surveillance running into the woods, we have our canine tracking into the woods, we believe that he is in the woods right now…We had perimeters set up very quickly. We don’t believe he’s escaped our dragnet that we have. However, that’s always a possibility. We’re going to assume that he’s in these woods. We’re going to take a very slow and methodical search because our goal is to take him into custody safely.”
Streets in the area have been shut down as officers set up a perimeter in the area. That includes Main Street from Newberry Avenue to Deckner Avenue, Deckner Avenue from Main Street to Henry Street, Newberry Avenue to De Leers Street, and Henry Street from Deckner to Newberry.
“We have K9’s, of course which we’re going to use. We also have a drone that can fly over the woods, looking at areas that are not safely accessible to our officer. So we do have some tools here. We’ve got plenty of officers out at the scene. We want to take our time and make sure we do this right,” Smith told WTAQ News.
Businesses in the area are on lockdown, as well as a number of schools. St. Bernard’s Catholic, Our Savior Lutheran, St. Paul Classical, and Eisenhower Elementary are all locked down.
“We redeployed our school resource officers from all the other schools in Green Bay to those four schools because they’re all in session, they all have children in there. We want to do everything we can to protect the kids and the staff at those schools,” Smith said. “We put out a code red to everybody in the area, so if you’re in the area, you should have received a notification on your phone that will tell you what we’re doing. And we’ve asked people in the general public to stay oarea until we finish working this problem.”
The suspect is described as a black man in his late teens, last seen wearing a blue-hooded sweatshirt and long pants.
Police warn he may have changed his clothes or removed his sweatshirt.
If you see the suspect or anyone suspicious in the area trying to hide, you’re asked to call Green Bay police or 911.
