GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — While school districts are bringing the classroom to students’ homes during the coronavirus pandemic, they’re also focused on bringing the lunchroom home.
Federal funds for summer lunch programs, including in Green Bay, have been extended through the end of 2020. The Green Bay school district says, beginning Tuesday, it will offer meals at nearly all school locations. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available at most locations. Any student in the district is eligible. Complete information is available online.
“School looks different. Food service looks different. But this is some normalcy for the students who are attending the school district because they’re getting what they normally would get during the school year,” said Lynette Zalec, the district’s director of food service.
Zalec says families who qualify for free and reduced-price meals should still apply, since the extended meal service may be available after Dec. 31.
Zalec says the district expects to provide about 10,000 meals per day during the school year.
