GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Fox Valley Technical College’s manager of media relations has resigned after controversial social media posts he made were brought to light.
The college said Chris Jossart resigned effective Monday.
Still, Ibrahim Hooper believes Jossart’s posts reflect a need for education.
“Bigots not being brain surgeons they’re usually equally opportunity offenders,” said Hooper. “When they go after one group of people they’ll normally go after another group of people too.”
As national communications director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Hooper says this incident stands out to him most.
“I almost do the exact job that this guy used to do!” Hooper exclaimed. “I just find it incomprehensible for somebody in this kind of position, where you’re trying to put out a positive message to the community, would do just the opposite.”
Since then the comments and posts have been taken down.
The college separated itself from Jossart with this statement:
“Christopher Jossart, manager of media relations, has resigned effective August 10, 2020 and has been relieved of his duties immediately. Our institution remains committed to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion that offers opportunity for all students, employees, and our communities.”
According to a newspaper report, Jossart posted the comments on his personal LinkedIn page. The report says Jossart called the Black Lives Matter movement “a disgrace” and wrote, “Yes, get rid of the anti-American filth causing cancer to our nation,” on a post about U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, who is Muslim. The report also lists other controversial comments and reactions.
