MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Ground was broken Friday on the third and final phase of the Manitowoc Family Aquatic Center.
The new addition will include a warming pool, splash pad and a shelter.
The family aquatic center project started with the pool ten years ago. After that, phase two included a miniature golf course.
Generous donors came forward to allow for the third phase, however, the pool itself is closed for the summer because of coronavirus concerns.
“We were not able to open this summer due to the size, and we were like many other municipality pools where they were closed during the summer, so it’s been a little bit of a downside not having it,” Manitowoc Family Aquatic Center Board President Amy Fricke-Weigel said.
Officials say construction will begin within the next few weeks.
They expect it to be done next May.
