I spoke with one of the founding members of Dairy Cares, Jim Ostrom. He explained that Dairy Cares is an organization that raises money for Children’s Wisconsin. So far, they’ve raised over $1 million!
The money that’s raised goes directly to Children’s Wisconsin and they decide where it’s needed most. Ostrom said that one year they used the money to build a simulation lab for training. Other years the money has gone to help kids with cancer and heart issues. The money is put to use wherever they feel it would benefit the kids the most.
He mentioned that they’ve seen first-hand how the money has impacted the lives of the kids that were at Children’s Wisconsin. For example, Troy Rockman is one of the kids that had been at the hospital. He had a hole in his heart that they patched up with a piece of a cow heart. Now Troy’s doing a lot better!
Normally, Dairy Cares does an annual garden party, but this year they’ve decided to move everything to a virtual setting. You can text the word ‘DAIRY’ to 71760 and that’ll bring you to an online auction and donation center. The online auction and donations will close at the end of the day on Saturday.
