GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Executive officers at UW-Green Bay’s three branch campuses say the health and safety of student athletes and coaches is a top priority following Tuesday’s announcement of the temporary suspension of Wisconsin Collegiate Conference athletics for the 2020-21 school year.
UW-Green Bay, Marinette CEO Cindy Bailey and UW-Green Bay, Sheboygan and Manitowoc CEO Jamie Schramm said in a news release the decision demonstrates keeping athletes, students, coaches, staff and families safe as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
“The importance of these athletic programs to our campuses and the support of our communities makes this decision difficult, but necessary,” Schramm said. “I personally want to thank our student-athletes, coaches and staff for their hard work and dedication.”
Both CEOs say they look forward to the return of intercollegiate athletics at their respective campuses.
UW Green Bay says it will continue to support student athletes at its three branch campuses, and it expects to reinstate competitive athletics at those campuses in the future.
Tuesday’s announcement also affects the branch campuses of UW-Stevens Point, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Platteville and UW-Oshkosh’s Fond du Lac and Fox Valley campuses.
