GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — While employment woes are continuing in Wisconsin as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, some people are taking advantage of the time they have.
It may seem like a strange thing to do with a pandemic going on across the world, but when Green Bay resident Evelyn Szymanski, 20, got laid off from her job due to COVID-19, she spent her free time opening her own travel agency.
“Travel is definitely coming back,” Szymanski told WTAQ on Tuesday. “I think it’s going to make a good rebound. I did, obviously, take [the pandemic] into consideration, but there are a lot of travel agents out there still making bookings.”
Szymanski worked at Lambeau Field and then later at a restaurant where she was on staff for just four days before pandemic cuts hit. She says despite the pandemic, people are looking to travel.
“They’re doing a lot of bookings in Hawaii right now,” said Szymanski. “I’m personally trying to book rail vacations, because those are open in the United States.”
Boredom, she says, was one of the primary motivating factors in making the leap.
“I got bored because I was used to working full time and going to school full time,” Szymanski said. “So then I came across this opportunity…and I took [it].”
Her agency, Any Occasion Destinations, is booking now.
