GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Summer can be a popular time to make a move, but some people may try to take advantage of those making a change to their address.
If you’re looking to change your address, make sure you do it through the official US Postal Service website. Susan Bach of the Better Business Bureau says simply Googling things could lead you in the wrong direction.
“Your results will lead you to sponsored listings of websites that look like the United States post office official website,” Bach tells WTAQ News, “Websites that are made to look like official government websites that are supposed to provide services that are either low cost or no cost, but these fake websites are charging a premium.”
Scam sites will often have typos and improper grammar – and clicking on the link may bring you to a completely different site.
“The Better Business Bureau learned of someone who was charged $80 to change their address if you go to the official post office website it should only cost about $1,” Bach says, “If you are looking for a service like changing your address purchasing a fishing license startled with the website and that you know to be the official website.”
Unlike most government sites, the United States Postal Service website is actually USPS.com – but typing in USPS.gov should also redirect you to the right place.
