GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Former Governor Scott Walker says he spends time everyday in prayer as Wisconsin, and the rest of the country, goes through medical, political and racial turmoil.
He believes part of what makes these times so difficult is people being too narrow-minded.
Walker says he’s concerned about COVID 19…and wants to see steps taken to reduce the risk and keep people healthy.
But in the early weeks of the pandemic he doesn’t believe the response effort gave enough consideration to the economic damage of a large scale shutdown.
“Those aren’t contradictory viewpoints. You can have all of those beliefs at once.”
Walker was a guest on WTAQ’s John Muir Show.
He says the death of George Floyd while in police custody made him sad and angry, and he understands the peaceful protests. But he would have taken swift action when the rioting and destruction started.
“I would have had the National Guard out there right away.”
In Wisconsin, protests have turned to violence and property damage in both Milwaukee and Madison.
As far as future plans, Walker says don’t count him out in another run for political office. But not for another few years.
For 2022, Walker is hoping his former Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch makes a run for the Governor’s office.
