WASHINGTON, DC (WSAU) — Once again Tom Tiffany is aiming at the Evers administration, this time calling for the Governor himself to resign.
In a statement on Wednesday Tiffany blamed riots near the Capitol on the Governor saying “He has stood idly by as the State Capitol was damaged, statues and monuments were defaced and destroyed, and State Street mobbed by looters and vandals. The governor has demonstrated time and time again that he is unwilling to prevent these unrelenting attacks on our safety, our property and our way of life.”
Tiffany added that the Governor’s silence is deafening and his inaction is unacceptable. He concluded by saying if the Governor cannot or will not “regain control of the streets then he should resign immediately. Enough is enough.”
During those incidents on Tuesday, rioters ripped down two statues near the Capitol, one of a Civil War icon Hans Christian Heg who fought and died for the United States (North). The other was the popular “Forward” statue, which honors Wisconsin’s place as one of the first states to allow women the right to vote during the end of women’s suffrage.
The incident spiraled out of control after police arrested Devorne Johnson, 28, who showed up at a restaurant with a megaphone and a baseball bat. He yelled at customers on an outdoor patio, and followed one patron inside and yelled profanities at him. It’s unclear what kind of message Johnson, who also goes by Yeshua Musa, was trying to send.
Tiffany, who won May’s special election to replace Sean Duffy as the 7th Congressional District representative, also called for Department of Health Services Secretary Andrea Palm to resign just before taking office. In that statement, he accused Palm of being a Washington insider and the Governor’s “hired gun.” It came just after the state Supreme Court tossed out Evers’ Safer at Home order, declaring it unconstitutional.
Evers said that statement was out of character for Tiffany and called on him to “relax.” The Governor has yet to respond to Tiffany’s new call for him to resign.
