GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Brown County Sheriff’s office is preparing for the arrival of the President of the United States at Green Bay Austin Straubel Airport on Thursday, and they have their hands full.
“Green Bay’s being used as a landing pad, and because the airport falls under our county jurisdiction, the sheriff’s office is very involved,” Captain Dan Sandberg told WTAQ on Tuesday.
While the exact operational specifics are kept under wraps, the Secret Service, which protects the President, Vice President, and their families, often asks local law enforcement to help with things like venue security, crowd control, and bomb detection.
The sheriff’s office has two bomb-sniffing dogs, and Green Bay police have a third.
President Donald Trump arrives on Air Force One on Thursday, but the exact time of his arrival hasn’t been disclosed. He will speak at Marinette Marine and participated in a closed town hall discussion with talk host Sean Hannity at the Jet Air facility at Austin Straubel Airport.
