GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Welding classes at NWTC are implementing new ways of social distancing and cleaning protocols to keep their students and staff safe at school.
NWTC welding professor John Schaefer tells FOX 11….
“We’re physically going through and wiping down everything and spraying down the booths before and after the students get done.”
While welding classes already had socially distanced units and ventilation in the classroom, the college added extra cleaning protocols and decreased class sizes. Face coverings are also required while on campus.
Some students were fearful of taking their classes online.
“When I heard about the whole virtual classes, the whole online I was like, I can’t. I can’t because when it comes to school, I have to physically be there,” NWTC student Brayden Lom says.
Although students and faculty feel good about the current safety precautions, Schaefer says it is still a work in progress.
“As you know it’s a really fluid situation. I’m hoping it definitely lightens up a little bit, but if have to carry through with this, whatever our executive team decides, we’ll follow through as best as we can.”
Instructors say it is good to be back.
