APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — A $2.5 Million dollar bond was set Wednesday for the man accused of killing his two children in Kaukauna in February.
Matthew Beyer made his first appearance in court on Wednesday where he was formally charged with two counts of intentional first degree homicide.
Prosecutors say Beyer stabbed 5-year-old William and 3-year-old Danielle Beyer to death after breaking in to their Kaukauna home on February 17th.
“The allegations are that he stabbed both children in the neck in the middle of the night, killing them both,” said Prosecutor Mindy Tempelis.
The criminal complaint says it’s likely both children died quickly, although William had wounds on his hands indicating a struggle.
“Quite frankly, under the circumstances, to say that Beyer is a danger to the public or a flight risk would be an understatement,” the judge said.
Beyer attempted to escape the Outagamie County Jail with another homicide suspect on Sunday after trying to take a guard hostage. He was also formally charged in that incident on Wednesday.
