OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man accused of killing his mother has been found competent to stand trial.
Bradley Boettcher, 36, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide for the Feb. 20, 2019, death of Lee Ann Dorn at her Appleton apartment.
The ruling means he understand the proceedings and can assist in his own defense. With that, the criminal case resumes. At Tuesday’s hearing, a preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 7, court records show.
The ruling does not address Boettcher’s mental condition at the time of the incident; that can be raised at a different stage of the case.
Dorn was killed in February and Boettcher was arrested the next day in Kentucky, but charges were not filed until September.
According to the criminal complaint, Dorn and Boettcher lived together. They would often argue about him moving out, and he would threaten to kill her, several people said. Dorn died of blunt force trauma to the head, the complaint states.
He is being held on a $1 million cash bond.
